Love is simple.
It’s fun comparing two things you adore the most, specifically, coffee and cacao. However, since I know I’m not the only one who struggles with this, let me tell you why I like coffee and love cacao.
Gets me and keeps me ready.
For people like myself, the most important business tasks are often during the first few hours of the day and being focused, alert and on point is absolutely key. These are some of the main reasons why I like coffee and love cacao.
There’s no denying that coffee energizes us with a nice little hit of caffeine in the mornings and often throughout the day, but do you ever feel that sometimes it’s more that our mind is just being tricked to think that we’re not tired? Stay with me on this.
The very moment caffeine starts flowing into our bloodstream, it touches the receptors in our brain that create adenosine. Adenosine is a compound that is responsible for increasing levels of sleepiness. What caffeine does is replace adenosine, which tells our brain not to feel sleepy or tired.
In contrast with coffee, cacao’s supercharging power comes from theobromine. This stimulant powerfully relaxes our blood vessels which boosts our blood circulation by 30-40%. Theobromine also blocks the adenosine, but to a lesser degree. Its main purpose is to increase heart rate signaling the brain to respond faster, helping us be ready and stay ready for our day.
And ceremonial grade cacao does more than just getting us ready. It keeps us ready – by serving the best breakfast, packed with folate, calcium, iron, B vitamins, and fiber. All of these very substantial vitamins and minerals help keep our body energized throughout the day.
Especially on our toughest days…
Do you consistently have mornings with absolutely zero energy, suffering from migraine, or for the ladies, suffering from Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)? These kinds of days are usually caused by magnesium deficiency. A cup of coffee for days like those just won’t cut it.
Ceremonial grade cacao, however, is packed with magnesium – a mineral we all need. In fact, it has the highest natural source of magnesium. If you haven’t fallen in love with ceremonial grade cacao yet, this fact just might make you love it!
It’s what keeps me sharp.
More than just fighting hectic mornings, ceremonial grade cacao significantly helps our brain stay sharp the whole day. Caffeine tries to switch off the adenosine in our system to effectively stop our nervous system from making us feel tired or drained.
The magnesium that cacao contains plays a significant role in all our brain functions, especially in memory and concentration. It relaxes your blood vessels and decreases strain, adequately keeping both your nervous and cardiac systems sharp for the day. To supercharge magnesium, ceremonial grade cacao is also full of flavonoids, a class of polyphenolic secondary metabolites that considerably improves our blood flow. Furthermore, it enhances our focus and attention span throughout the day.
Cacao’s more profound kick though is from its anandamides, better known as “bliss molecule”. It’s a chemical that triggers a sense of happiness, mental wellness, and a deep sense of peace. It also boosts your serotonin level, effectively helping you fight mood swings.
In contrast, coffee’s immediate peak and sudden dip may trigger anxiety. Not to mention, this temporary squeeze of huge amounts of adrenaline from our adrenal glands may result in a longer-term drop in energy levels and even greater dependence on these compounds just to get through the day.
As I experienced it, coffee only keeps our senses alert, while cacao keeps us focused. If you want to experience it for yourself, try being keen on your concentration level the next time you drink coffee or cacao and notice that the latter has a longer effect than the former.
Particularly from the get-go…
Ingesting ceremonial grade cacao, along with a healthy meal, gives us a perfect breakfast to kick start our day. It boosts all necessary vitamins and minerals to prepare us for our day, enough to keep us sharp and steady far better than what coffee does to our body. A healthy breakfast that incorporates the supercharged ceremonial grade cacao helps us avoid the pitfalls of over-eating that eventually gives way to bad weight gain, which could trigger more serious health complications.
Coffee has its benefits, especially with caffeine considered one of the world’s most commercial fat-burning supplements. It’s one of the few substances known to help mobilize fats from our fat tissues and increase metabolism — that is if we are talking about a pure and healthy amount of coffee.
And this is partly why I like coffee and love cacao because if we are just talking about metabolism and overall fitness, ceremonial grade cacao checks all those benefits and more. Any good fitness guru will tell us that a good diet includes healthy fats that will trigger chemical reactions responsible for immunity, growth, and healthy metabolism. Along with those important nutrients, ceremonial grade cacao has compounds that curb our appetite, which can help you in your fitness goals.
It may sound like it…
But I’m not attacking coffee. Honestly, its aroma still captivates me from time to time. I still lust its aggressive kick in my vines. As backed up by years of studies, it improves our exercise by 11–12%, at least on average. I sincerely still like it. But even with all that, my heart truly loves Cacao without a doubt.
