Let’s reimagine our beloved donut with a decadent twist of cacao. This recipe blog is your go-to destination for crafting these baked delights that boast a rich chocolatey goodness. Indulge your sweet tooth while savoring the satisfaction of a healthier, baked option.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Tribal Moon Cacao
  • ⅓ cup dairy free milk of choice
  • 1½ teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • ⅔ cup all-purpose flour blend
  • ⅓ cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425ºF and lightly grease a 6-well donut pan.
  2. In a measuring cup, combine the milk and vinegar and let sit while you prepare the other ingredients.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cacao, sugar, baking powder, spices and salt
  4. Create a well in the dry ingredients and add the egg, oil, vanilla and milk-vinegar mixture and whisk to combine those ingredients. Then stir everything together to make a batter.
  5. Scoop the batter into a sandwich bag, snip a corner off, and pipe the batter into the wells of your donut pan until they’re each about ⅔ full.
  6. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.

IMPORTANT CACAO PREPARATION NOTES:

Depending on what type of recipe you are creating, we always try and prepare cacao in the easiest possible way with the greatest amount of care. So here are a few helpful hints on how to do that.

  • If you need the cacao in more of a powder-type form for your recipe, just blitz larger chunks of Tribal Moon Cacao in a Nutri-Bullet, Thermomix, or Food Processor for 10 seconds. Then it is all ready to go without needing to chop or grate it. Easy. 😊
  • If you need to turn your cacao into more of a liquid type of consistency, simply pour boiling water into a pot with the cacao and stir over heat until it melts. NEVER LEAVE THE CACAO as it begins to get hot. If it starts to steam, that is as hot as you want to get. Try to NEVER RAISE the temperature of the cacao above 87 Degrees Celsius as it will lose some of its medicinal qualities.
  • Have fun
